Living successfully with
HIV requires a good understanding of
how the virus works and the tools and treatments available to help you control it. Remember, you are in charge of your own health. Taking the time to learn about your lab tests and treatment options, and finding a healthcare team you can trust will help you make the best of your situation.

Advances in treatment have dramatically changed what it means to live with HIV. While there is no cure for HIV, there are almost 30 drugs in four different classes now available to fight the virus. These HIV meds work by helping to stop or "inhibit" certain steps during the HIV reproduction process.

The most important thing you can do to help control your HIV and stay healthier is to take an active role in your health care. First and foremost, take the correct dose of each of your HIV medications every day. If you have trouble taking or remembering to take any of your meds, ask your healthcare provider for help right away. And always talk to your healthcare provider about the results of all your lab tests and any side effects you experience.
